NABL scope for concrete cube and rebar tests

Where NABL laboratory testing for concrete cubes or rebar is required, the exact material, parameter and method are checked against the current accreditation scope of the reporting laboratory. Ask for the current certificate and scope before dispatching samples.

Concrete cube testing

  • Sample receipt, identification and dimensional observations.
  • Density or mass-related observations where specified.
  • Compressive strength testing at the specified test age.
  • Failure observations and test-machine result recording.
  • Project-wise result schedules for traceable cube identification.

Concrete sampling, specimen preparation and strength testing are commonly specified through IS 1199, IS 516 and the project quality plan. The report records the measured result; acceptance of a concrete lot must be assessed against the approved mix, sampling plan and governing project criteria.

Reinforcement and rebar testing

  • Nominal mass, diameter or dimensional checks when specified.
  • Tensile properties such as yield/proof stress, ultimate tensile strength and elongation.
  • Bend and re-bend performance as required by the grade and specification.
  • Test-piece identification and failure observations.

Reinforcement testing may refer to IS 1786, IS 1608, IS 1599 or the contractually specified method. Grade, bar diameter, heat/batch identification and sample length should be supplied with the request.

Frequently asked questions

Does a cube result alone prove structural strength?

No. A cube result is one quality-control input. Sampling, curing, test age, mix records and structural conditions must also be considered.

Can Rebound Hammer replace cube testing?

No. Rebound Hammer is an in-situ surface-hardness method and does not directly replace standard compressive-strength testing. It may support an investigation when used with other evidence.

What should be marked on a rebar sample?

Provide the project, supplier, grade, diameter and heat or batch reference where available so the result remains traceable.
